Initial Setup for Microsoft Outlook

Instructions may vary depending on your version. Please contact Belstar Media at 866-WEB-4BIZ if you need assistance.

To set up Outlook for the first time on the computer, find the Outlook Icon on your desktop and 'Right Click'.

A drop down menu will appear and you'll need to choose 'Properties' which should be the last one on the list.

The first thing that should appear is the 'Add Service to Profile' box. Choose 'Internet E-mail' from the list then click on 'Ok'.

The Email Properties box will then come up with the 'General' tab already up. In the 'Mail Account' box, enter the name you wish to associate with this email account. The 'Name' under User Information is again your name and in the Email Address box, type your email address. Make sure that your email address is entered in lower case before clicking on the 'Servers' tab at the top of the screen.

Under the 'Servers' tab it asks for the Outgoing and Incoming Mail servers. Both of these should again be typed in lower case. The mail servers are mail.yourdomain.com (replace 'yourdomain.com' with your web site address) . For the 'Login Information' your account name will be the same as you email address. Same thing happens here, make sure it's in lower case. If you would like for the Outlook to remember your password, you can enter it now before clicking on the 'Connection' tab.

The 'Connection' setup will depend on your Internet Service Provider. If you have a cable modem, then click on 'I use a Lan connection'. Otherwise, click on 'I use a modem to access my email'.

Now it's just a matter of clicking on 'Apply' then 'Ok' to exit out of it. Now, double click on the 'Outlook' icon on the desktop.

**NEW**

All email accounts now require SMTP authentication. To set this up, open Outlook if it isn't already. Go to Tools in your File Menu. Select Accounts. You will see the Inernet Accounts window displayed below.

Click on the Servers tab. You will see a section titled Outgoing Mail Server. Check the box that says "My server requires authentication". Click OK and then Close to apply the change and exit out.

Send yourself a test e-mail to make sure it is working properly.
